Xpydas
are DHCP-enabled when shipped, to simplify
the installation procedure.
On
installation and when first powered up,
they will attempt to obtain an IP address
from the network's DHCP server.
If
after several attempts at getting their
IP address, they cannot find a DHCP server,
they will set their own IP address to
a default value.
This
allows the network administrator to then
manually access and reset the Xpyda's
IP address to a fixed static address using
the Xpyda Administrator software.
In
both cases, the Xpyda will retain the
IP address - even when it is powered down
and rebooted. After first powering up,
the only way to change the Xpyda's IP
address is for the network administrator
to reconfigure it manually using the Xpyda
Administrator software.
This
way, Xpydas never get "lost"
on the network, or become out of sync
with the Xpyda Administrator database.
